A motivated and emotionally engaged workforce is critical in educational institutions, like in any other sector. However, the teaching profession, in many countries, attracts less allowance compared to other professions. Teachers also complain about the lack of role differentiation in their careers, the limited incentives for them to improve their practice and develop as professionals, and the limited linkages between their performance, compensation, and development.
